Unlike many clients who chose to keep their chalets as weekend destinations, the owner of Al-Wazzan seaside residence made it clear that his family will be using the building as their permanent home. With that in mind, M2H Studio made sure that the design of the sea-side house had the general glamour of a resort but with the comfortable setting of a family home. All public and entertaining spaces are on the ground floor. The front yard overlooking the sea is shaded by almost 4 meters of cantilevered structure on top. An L-shaped pool runs adjacent to the stone cladded eastern wall, casting wonderful lighting effects on it during night and day. At the pool's edge, a more quiet and secluded seating area in provided for the family to enjoy the outdoor view of the sea without being noticed by the public crowds strolling down the beach. Several of the internal walls of the house are utilized for storage, ex. the bookshelf wall which wraps around the staircase and contains decorative items and/or books. The first floor includes the parents and children's bedroom and balconies. The best view of the sea is from the parent's master-bedroom, to which a spacious dressing room and bathroom are interconnected. The bathroom window is full height glass looking onto a planted veranda and further onto the sea. To shield the bathroom from external views, a louver mechanism is used whereby the occupant can look out but people will not be able to look in. A secret staircase from the master-bedroom delivers the owner to an office/gym space on the 2nd floor. From the gym, the owner can access an intimate, sea-facing roof terrace furnished with modern, outdoor lounge chairs. The separated back portion of the second floor is dedicated for servant quarters, storage and laundry areas. Overall, the house succeeds in being as special as a resort but as practical as a cozy, family home.
